The story of Downtown Eldon began with a farmer, George R. Weeks. He exemplifies the American spirit of hard work and ingenuity. Through his dedication and perseverance he helped cultivate a prosperous community. Weeks began the foundation for our legacy when he filed the Plat of Eldon in March, 1882. Essentially, welcoming Eldon's first Railroad Line the Missouri-Pacific with the Rock Island Line to follow.

Downtown Eldon will be celebrating it's 150 Year "Sesquicentennial" on March 15th 2032, a short 8 years from now. Small towns across our country are recreating themselves, we can learn from their successes. To uphold the foundation created for our town to Prosper and Thrive in 2032.

Missouri Pacific - 1882
In 1881, Prior to Eldon becoming an established town, the Missouri Pacific Railroad surveyed the area for a branch railroad. George Weeks, donated 40 acres of land to build the train depot to "get the town started up,” says “Eldon a Look Back”. One month after the plat was filed, the railroad announced their plans to come through Eldon.
Rock Island Line - 1903
In 1902 Eldon “started to ready itself for the blessing that may come.” At this time the Rock Island line was looking for a division point between St. Louis and Kansas City. Downtown Eldon was already established enough to have a water tank, engine house, bank and telegraph service. Downtown Eldon welcomed the additon of another railroad line.
