Barbershop Memories - Photo Scavenger Hunt

The Downtown Eldon Historical Society was recently contacted by Rick Stagner of Springfield, MO. He shared a photo of his Great Grandmother, Margaret Roberts (Crum) along with some barbershop newspaper clippings and the photo of Mr. Roberts giving someone a fresh shave.

Early Eldon has had several Barbershops located on Maple Street throughout the years. We proudly still support Karl's Barbershop, with all of it's memorabilia and classic cuts. More on Karl's Barbershop another time.

Let's gather what we can about Robert's Midway Barbershop. Do you have any photos, stories or newspaper clippings to share? Leave a comment below.

Rick Stagner was able to get some information about Midway Barber from the Miller County Museum. They said the Barbershop was located at 205 S Maple at one time. After searching through the newspaper archives, it seems it may have moved to a few different locations in Eldon over the years. If you have any details to share, please leave them in the comments below.

There are not many books written that tell the story of daily life in Downtown Eldon. We keep these memories alive within our families, but over time they fade to some distant recollection. What are some ways we can better preserve our the past so people in the future can better understand what life was like...

Rick Stagner's Great Grandmother had her own shop in Eldon. She owned "Billies" with her daughter. Her father, Mr. Crum, had a sandwich shop near the train track says Rick Stagner. Do you recall these shops? If so, be sure to share your memories below.

The residents of Eldon were savvy entrepreneurs and were very dedicated to the outcome of their town. All you have to do is browse through old newspaper clippings and you will travel along the path they set out for us...

Here are a few other clippings we found interesting about Mr. Roberts Barbershop days.
