Downtown Eldon Sanborn Maps

Check out this map that Miller County Museum shared with me… it shows what buildings were standing and occupied by 1913, along with what type of establishment was in them…

I have come across two Sanborn Maps for Eldon in 1913 & 1920. They provide excellent details about which buildings were brick (red) and which were framed (yellow) along with the type of establishment in each building.

These maps were used for Fire Insurance Underwriting out of New York City. You can learn more here…

While these maps were created specifically for insurance underwriting, they demonstrate an excellent aspect of history. You can find what buildings were built of brick or framed with stick, in addition to what type of business was located in each building… providing an opportunity to step back in time…

You can compare the growth of Eldon between the two maps of 1913-1920, when there were several more brick buildings added in red, along with some changes to the Mill & Electric Plant.
